Effect of TiO <sub>2</sub> on microphase development during phase separation and crystallization in Na <sub>2</sub> O–B <sub>2</sub> O <sub>3</sub> –SiO <sub>2</sub> glass system

This study examines the incorporation of TiO2 into sodium borosilicate glasses and its effect on formation glassy crystalline microphases. Glasses in composition range: 7Na2O–23B2O3–(70 - X)SiO2–XTiO2 (where X = 0–14.6 mol.% TiO2) which exhibit phase separation were investigated. Raman studies confirm two different coordinations depending molar content TiO2. Thermal properties are unaffected by addition. The domain size microphase development TiO2-containing glass indicates competition between crystallization. Enrichment titanium interphase microphases reduces mass transfer consequently limits growth rate phases. competes with anatase for a nucleation-controlled mechanism is proposed.
